Gorge Heritage Museum

The Gorge Heritage Museum, located in the former Bingen Congregational Church dedicated in May 1912, was founded in 1984 by the West Klickitat County Historical Society. Its mission is to foster appreciation for the rich heritage left by the native people and the immigrants who lived, traded, and built communities in the scenic mountain valleys and along the Columbia River.

Visitors to the Gorge Heritage Museum can explore a wide range of exhibits featuring artifacts such as tools, furnishings, clothing, photographs, and more from days gone by. These displays offer a window into pioneer life, showcasing items like traditional clothing, household goods, logging and farming tools, and even medical and surgical equipment. Additionally, the museum presents a collection of historical documents, local newspapers, and Native American artifacts and crafts, each telling part of the region’s story.

Most of the museum’s displays come from the generous donations of pioneer families and history enthusiasts, and contributions of historical items are always welcomed. The Gorge Heritage Museum is a valuable resource for anyone interested in the legacy and lives of those who shaped the Columbia River area.
